Chris Brown and Usher side by side

Chris Brown and Usher Reportedly Argued Backstage in Atlanta Before a Show That Started Nearly Three Hours Late and Skipped Their Duets

The first night of the biggest R&B tour in the country turned into a mess in Atlanta, and by Friday the word was that Chris Brown and Usher went at it backstage before either one of them touched the stage.

Thursday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium was supposed to start at 7:30. Fans sat there until around 10, with some putting the wait at two hours and 40 minutes. When the show finally started, Brown and Usher played separate sets, never did a song together, and the night wrapped around midnight with part of the setlist cut.

Reports out Friday offered an explanation. TMZ reported, citing people familiar with the situation, that the two argued backstage over when to start while heavy traffic had fans still stuck on the roads trying to get in. Brown reportedly wanted to start for the crowd already inside. Usher reportedly wanted to hold the show for the people still coming through the gates. Neither man has confirmed any of it.

The same reports say the tour has been competitive between them the whole way, with egos in the mix, and that the disagreement was still unresolved on Friday. Nobody expects the tour to fall apart over it.

“Internet 🧢. Don’t fall for it.”

Chris Brown, on his Instagram Story on Friday

Brown posted that Friday morning while the talk about night one was spreading. He never said which talk he meant, the complaints or the backstage story, and Usher has not said anything publicly at all.

The Atlanta run is not small. It grew from two nights to five, a stadium record for one tour stop, passing the four shows Beyoncé did there in 2025. Night two is tonight, with more shows on November 8, 10 and 11. By the end of tonight everybody will know whether night one was a blowup or just a bad night.
