The calendar keeps moving on Lil Durk, and not in his favor. His second federal trial was supposed to start Oct 5. It won’t. That date is off, and the next thing that matters is a bond hearing on Nov 4, where his lawyers will argue he should be fighting this from home instead of a cell.
Here is the setup. On Sept 11, a federal jury in Los Angeles acquitted Durk of all charges in the murder-for-hire case tied to the Aug 19, 2022 shooting near the Beverly Center. Prosecutors had alleged he bankrolled a plot to kill Quando Rondo as revenge for the 2020 killing of King Von. Quando Rondo survived. His cousin, 24-year-old Saviay’a Robinson, did not.
Durk walked out of that trial cleared, but he never walked out of custody. The feds had already split off a second case, racketeering and firearms charges, and that one is still alive. The wrinkle his lawyers are expected to hammer: the new case covers the same Aug 19, 2022 night the first jury already decided, just charged under a different law, Violent Crimes in Aid of Racketeering. Same night, new statute. Expect a fight over whether the government gets to retry a night a jury already ruled on.
His co-defendants, Deandre “OTF Dede” Wilson and David “Browneyez” Lindsey, were convicted on the stalking counts but cleared of murder-for-hire, and both have motions asking the judge to throw out or redo parts of the case. The government owed its response today.
After the acquittal, his lawyer Drew Findling told the press, “The shackles must come off, and he must walk free.” The shackles are still on. He has been locked up since October 2024, and Nov 4 is the next date that could change that.
None of the remaining charges are proven. He is presumed innocent on every one of them.
