After four and a half months of psychiatric evaluations, the woman accused of spraying bullets at Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s home is mentally competent to stand trial. Judge Maria Cavalluzzi said it plainly in Los Angeles County court on Tuesday: “Criminal proceedings are reinstated.”
Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, of Orlando, has pleaded not guilty to trying to murder Rihanna, plus more than a dozen other felony charges from the March 8 shooting. Prosecutors say she drove a Tesla up to the couple’s Beverly Hills home, pointed an AR-15-style rifle out the window, and fired at least 20 rounds.
Bullets tore through an Airstream trailer that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were inside at the time. More shots hit the wall of the nursery where their three small children were with a nanny. Nobody was injured.
Rihanna has said she heard about ten loud bangs, woke Rocky, pushed him to the ground, and they ran for cover. Ortiz, who appeared behind glass in yellow jail clothes and handcuffs and did not speak, faces up to life in state prison if convicted. She is due back in court Wednesday.
