Antonio Brown Pleaded Guilty in the Miami Shooting Case and Got Probation Instead of a Possible 30 Years

Antonio Brown’s attempted murder case ended Friday in a Miami courtroom. The former All-Pro receiver pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of aggravated assault with a firearm and got three years of probation, not the decades in prison he had been staring at.

Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez handed down the sentence in Miami state court. Along with the three years of probation, Brown has to attend weekly counseling sessions and cannot possess a firearm. She withheld adjudication, so the plea does not put a criminal conviction on his record, and if he meets every condition he can ask to end the probation in roughly 18 months.

“He faced a thirty-year prison sentence, including a twenty-year mandatory minimum.”

The case goes back to May 16, 2025, outside a celebrity boxing event in Miami. Police said Brown got into a fistfight, took a handgun from a security guard and fired two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, grazing him in the neck. Brown was charged with second-degree attempted murder, and after a warrant went out he was extradited from Dubai in November 2025.

Prosecutor Howard Rosen told the court his office agreed to cut the charge partly because there was a question of whether Brown was actually trying to shoot Nantambu, who was walking away when the shots were fired. Brown had claimed self-defense under Florida’s stand your ground law. His lawyer said Brown is extremely grateful to put the case behind him, and after a run that went from a Miami boxing crowd to an extradition out of Dubai, it closed with probation and counseling.
