Trump Replaced Susie Wiles With Stephen Miller as Chief of Staff Three Days After Democrats Swept the Midterms

Susie Wiles is out as White House chief of staff. President Trump announced Friday that Stephen Miller will take over the job on Monday, three days after Democrats took back the House and the Senate in the midterm elections.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, calling Miller, his deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security adviser, one of his most trusted advisors. Wiles will move over to the Trump Political Operation, and Trump thanked her for her service.

Mr. Stephen Miller will become the Chief of Staff starting Monday, November 9, 2026. Susie Wiles, who has done an outstanding job, will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation.

Wiles, 69, was the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff. She ran Trump’s comeback campaign in 2024 and has held the job since he returned to office in 2025, the steady hand in an operation that does not usually do steady.

Miller, 41, is a different kind of pick. He has been the face of Trump’s immigration agenda since the first term, and putting him in the chief of staff chair says the White House plans to come out of the midterm loss swinging, not moderating.

Wiles said in a statement of her own that Friday was her last day in the job. It is the first major shake up inside the building since Tuesday, and it probably is not the last.
