Selma Blair Apologizes on Camera After Her Flight Arrest, Saying She Never Meant to Hurt or Frighten Anyone

Selma Blair spoke on camera Friday for the first time since her arrest at JFK Airport, apologizing to the people she says she disappointed, hurt, frightened and alarmed around a Delta flight from Los Angeles.

In the video, posted to her Instagram, Blair said her lawyers have told her not to talk about that day, October 11, and that she is taking the legal matter very seriously. What she wanted on the record was an apology.

“Not one day ever have I intended to hurt or frighten anyone a day in my life. And so to the people that I disappointed, that I hurt, that I frightened, alarmed, I am so sorry.”

Around 11 p.m. on October 11, Port Authority police met Delta Flight 938 when it landed at JFK from Los Angeles. TMZ reported that Blair allegedly punched one flight attendant and bit another during the flight, and dispatch audio from that night described bite marks and a bloody nose. Delta told USA Today it could not corroborate reports that she tried to open a cabin door.

The criminal complaint says that while Blair was strapped to a stretcher to be taken to an ambulance, she allegedly kicked Port Authority Officer Maria Suarez repeatedly in the face, neck and chest. She is also accused of kicking a nurse in the chest at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. She was charged with two counts of felony second degree assault, pleaded not guilty on October 12, and was released on $20,000 bail. Her next court date is January 19, 2027.

Her side of it is a medical story. Her attorney, Shawn Barnes, told the court she had worked long hours, missed doses of her medication, and fallen and hit her head on the plane. Her representative later said she had a medical emergency on the flight, that there was no attempt to open the door, and that she did not intend to harm anyone. Blair announced in 2018 that she has multiple sclerosis.

Blair closed the video by saying she is stepping back to take care of her health and her son, and she thanked the people who have written and called with support. The charges now sit with the court, and January is when everyone hears the next part.
