Louisville Councilwoman Apologizes After Posting the Wrong Man’s Photo in Viral Road Rage Case

A week ago, a video out of Louisville had everybody heated. It showed a man on a motorcycle striking a young woman in the middle of the street after a road rage confrontation near Preston Highway, and it spread fast.

Louisville councilwoman Tammy Hawkins jumped on it. At an October 2 press conference, she stood with the woman in the video, 20-year-old Tenaya Stanford, and demanded police arrest the motorcyclist. Hawkins also posted a photo on Facebook of a man she said was involved, writing that someone should turn him in.

Then the police released their own footage. On October 5, the LMPD chief said the full video tells a different story: two people making a string of bad decisions, with about a dozen moments where either one could have walked away. According to police, Stanford got out of her car holding a steering wheel lock, and later tried to use a Taser on the motorcyclist.

Today, Hawkins apologized. She admitted the photo she posted showed the wrong man, someone with no role in the incident. “I take responsibility for sharing that photo without having verified information,” she said. The Jefferson County Attorney is now reviewing the case for possible charges.
