Zendaya’s Halloween look is a remake, not a costume. Law Roach posted her on Saturday in the same yellow Lanvin string bikini top and printed pants Halle Berry wore to the X-Men premiere in 2000.
Roach shared the video and photos on Instagram with the caption “Zendaya channeling Halle Berry wearing Lanvin Fall 2000.” The post passed 211,000 likes in its first hours. The video is Zendaya posing in the finished look, pixie cut and tinted shades included.
Berry wore the original to the X-Men world premiere in New York on July 12, 2000, with round yellow tinted sunglasses and a belly chain slung low. It became one of the defining red carpet looks of that era, the kind people still pull up 26 years later.
This is the second time this year Roach has built a Zendaya look around Berry. At the Emmys in September, her sheer silver dress and pixie cut were a nod to Berry’s 2002 Die Another Day premiere look, and Berry reshared that tribute herself.
“She murdered the night.”
That was Berry’s verdict on the Emmys homage. Halloween is today, and a lot of costumes will come and go by midnight. This one has a 26 year old receipt attached to it.
