Nicki Minaj rode Air Force One into Michigan on Sunday to campaign with President Donald Trump, nine days before a midterm election that could decide who controls the Senate. It is her first official campaign appearance next to him.
Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary! @NICKIMINAJ

The plane landed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, and Minaj walked off alongside Trump in head to toe Gucci, headed for his rally at McMorran Place Arena in Port Huron. Trump was set to speak at 3 in support of former Rep. Mike Rogers, the Republican nominee for Michigan’s open Senate seat, in a toss up race against Democrat Abdul El-Sayed.
On the flight, Minaj sat down with White House communications director Steven Cheung. Asked about the economy under Trump, she said: “We have a president who understands economics, first of all. He is naturally a businessman. He worked his way out of not having a dollar left in the bank, so if he can do that with his own finances, surely he knows what to do with the country.”
Cheung posted the video with that press secretary caption, and the job is genuinely open, after Katie Zachariah resigned five days into it. Minaj quote posted the clip herself with a flag and a nervous smile.
“This midterm election is the most important of our lifetimes. We need to make sure President Trump has a strong, effective team in Congress for his final two years in office.”

She also posted her own video from inside the plane, captioned “#AirForceOneBARBIE,” and praised Trump’s work ethic on camera: “He wakes up at 4am. He outworks people that are half his age.”

Minaj called herself Trump’s number one fan at a Treasury Department event in January. A plane ride into a battleground state for a Senate race this tight is a louder statement than any endorsement post. Port Huron had never hosted a sitting president before Sunday.
