Donald Trump called LeBron James a “total disgrace” and demanded an apology for practicing his golf swing during the national anthem. LeBron’s answer, delivered after the wildest comeback win of his career, was a laugh and four words’ worth of concern: it must have been a slow news day at the office.
The moment came Thursday night in Philadelphia, after the Sixers came back from 29 points down to beat Cleveland 114 to 106. It was the biggest comeback of James’s career and the biggest in Sixers history in the play-by-play era. Tyrese Maxey scored 32, Joel Embiid added 24, and James finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists.
“Must have been a slow news day at the office, you know? Slow news day in the office.”
Trump had spent part of Thursday calling the anthem moment “a big scandal kind of a story” at a rally in Iowa, on top of the Truth Social post that demanded the apology in the first place. James, for his part, had stood noticeably still during the anthem in Philadelphia before the game even started.

Sixers coach Nick Nurse brushed the whole thing off as “outside noise,” and James clearly plans to treat it exactly the same way. The comeback is the story he is keeping. The rest is a slow news day.
