GTA 6 Could Cost America $1 Billion in Sick Days, and a Gamer on Live TV Just Explained Why

A gamer went on FOX 2 in Detroit and said out loud what millions of people are planning for November 19, the day GTA 6 finally comes out: “I’ve been waiting a decade for this. I’m gonna take a day off of work.”

Then he landed the line that sums up the whole launch: “You were a kid when you played the last one. Now you may have children.”

He is far from alone. An economics professor in Barcelona estimates 1.5 million Americans will skip work that day, at a cost of about $1 billion in lost output. BambooHR says time-off requests for November 19 are already running 9 to 17 percent above normal across more than 30,000 US companies. Even Take-Two’s CEO told shareholders he expects a wave of sick calls that day.

Miami Is Already Living in Vice City

Rockstar is turning the real Miami into a billboard while everybody waits. Crews have planted Vice City umbrellas, chairs and cabanas on Miami Beach, reportedly with security guards watching the gear overnight so nobody steals it.

One worker who unboxed the branded chairs on TikTok says he got fired for posting it: “Basically, GTA 6 cost me my job.” Downtown, the Kaseya Center has a glowing Vice City sign on its roof, and the Miami Heat have a Vice City court and uniforms on the way. Reports put the marketing deal at around $4 million.

GTA 6 launches November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Book the day now. Everybody else already has.
