Chris Rock Says He Has Not Watched Porn in Five or Six Years, and a Diagnosis Helped Him Understand the Marriage He Wrecked

Chris Rock is a GQ 2026 Men of the Year cover star, and the interview is no victory lap. He says he has not watched porn in five or six years.

Rock, 61, told GQ he cheated during his marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock and did not listen and was not kind. The honesty is the whole point of the profile: the fame, the slap, the divorce, all of it gets talked about like a man doing inventory.

I was not a great husband. I watched a lot of porn. I don’t watch porn anymore. I haven’t watched porn in five, six years.

Longtime fans have heard the confession before. Rock built his 2018 special “Tamborine” around the same wreckage. What is new this time is the frame around it: Rock says he was recently diagnosed with nonverbal learning disorder, a condition that can make social cues hard to read, and that the diagnosis and therapy helped him understand his own behavior.

Rock and Compton-Rock married in 1996, split in 2014 and finalized the divorce in 2016. They share two daughters. He says nobody has a successful divorce, and his cost him years: his new A24 film “Misty Green” is his first feature as a director since “Top Five” in 2014.

This time there is no punchline attached. Rock is just saying he was the problem, and that it took him a decade, therapy and a diagnosis to say it plainly.
