The feds just unsealed one of the biggest gun cases Atlanta has seen in a while. Twenty people were indicted on federal gun and drug charges after investigators say nearly 1,500 firearms were stolen from shipping facilities in Conley and Macon, Georgia.
Prosecutors say the thefts happened in waves. On November 29 and 30 of last year, three men allegedly broke into a Conley shipping facility and walked out with 724 Glock pistols. Two days later, two alleged members of the GoodFellas street gang sold two of those pistols to an undercover ATF agent.
The Macon facility got hit twice in January. Prosecutors say one man broke in on January 10 and took 469 firearms, then the crew hit the same building again six days later and took another 293.
In May, agents raided 12 locations tied to the gang and seized about 24 kilograms of meth, 22 kilograms of marijuana, plus fentanyl, cocaine base, a pill press, and more firearms.
Five of the defendants were arrested Tuesday. Five others were picked up in September. Two men, 41-year-old Samuel Harris and 41-year-old Demontra Williams, are still fugitives, and federal officials are asking anyone with information to contact local law enforcement.
The indictments are charges, not convictions. Everyone named is presumed innocent.
