Gunfire At Minnesota Homecoming Game Wounds 2 Teens, Clears Out Packed Stadium

A homecoming football game in Eden Prairie, Minnesota turned into a panic Friday night when shots rang out in the parking lot, sending thousands of spectators rushing for the exits. Two teenagers were wounded, and nobody has been arrested.

It happened around 8:40 pm on the north side of Eden Prairie High School during the game against Minnetonka, police said. Before the shooting, a large altercation broke out on the west side of Aerie Stadium. Officers broke it up and removed several people from the area, then gunfire erupted in the parking lot.

The two victims, males 17 and 18 and both from St. Paul, were taken to Hennepin Healthcare with non-life-threatening injuries. Neither attends Eden Prairie or Minnetonka. The 18-year-old was released Saturday. The 17-year-old was still in the hospital. Police said both are known to law enforcement.

The stadium was cleared over the PA system while the game was still going. Spectators, including kids, climbed fences to get out, and families were sent to reunite at nearby Round Lake Park. The school canceled the homecoming dance.

Police say they believe the shooting was gang-related and targeted. Sources told FOX 9 the shooting involved Somali gangs. As of Sunday, investigators said they did not have a suspect description to release, and no arrests had been announced.
