A homecoming block party in Vienna, Georgia turned into a crime scene overnight. Gunfire erupted around 1:25 Sunday morning on Pine Street while more than 1,000 people were gathered, and when it was over, 2 people were dead and 35 more were hurt.
The GBI says Dooly County deputies were already patrolling the party when the shots came from the 900 block of Pine Street. Sheriff Craig Peavy told reporters more than 50 rounds were fired from at least two spots about a block apart. The two men killed were identified as Jaquevion Jackson, 21, of Cordele and Macaleb Jackson, 23, of Hawkinsville. Two of the wounded are in critical condition, and several victims were hit by cars as the crowd scrambled to get away.
The GBI held a news conference Sunday with the latest on the investigation.
No suspects have been named and investigators have not released a motive. The GBI has taken over the case and is asking anyone who was at the party to come forward. Tips can go to the GBI regional office in Perry at (478) 987-4545 or 1-800-597-TIPS.
