Xbox Says That GTA 6 Cloud Exclusive Report Was Wrong

The Verge reported yesterday that Xbox had locked down exclusive cloud streaming rights for GTA 6. If true, PC players could have streamed the game on launch day, November 19, even though Rockstar never announced a PC version. Today, Xbox says that report is not true.

Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball posted on X that the report was misreporting. He said GTA 6 will not be streaming exclusively and will not stream to PC. So whatever Xbox’s actual deal with Rockstar looks like, it is not exclusive, and PC players are back to having no way in on day one. That PC backdoor everyone was dreaming about is closed.

The original story came from The Verge’s Tom Warren, who said Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told employees the company had a GTA 6 streaming arrangement that “no other platform holder is doing.” Ball did not explain what the real deal is. He only drew two lines: no exclusivity, no PC streaming.

GTA 6 still drops November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PC players get nothing, same as before the report. Watch the official trailer below.
