Grand Theft Auto 6 doesn’t come out until November 19, but Rockstar is already treating Miami like it owns the place.
A helicopter spent Tuesday lifting massive pink-and-white letters onto the roof of the Kaseya Center, home of the Miami Heat, spelling out “Welcome to Vice City” next to the game’s VI emblem. The sign faces the sky — planes landing at Miami International get the full view.
The price tag: nearly $1 million. Miami-Dade County collects $975,000 under the marketing deal, with some of the money tied to development around the arena. The deal only allows “Vice City” and the VI logo on the roof — the words “Grand Theft Auto” are barred from the sign.
Not everyone was thrilled. Some county officials questioned putting a crime-franchise billboard on public property. They approved it anyway. With the November 19 launch approaching, this looks like the opening move of a much bigger Miami takeover.
