Texas Hands Ye a Global Icon Award After His Houston Show Broke the U.S. Rap Attendance Record

Ye left Houston with a record and a state honor. After his Halloween night show at Reliant Stadium, Texas state representative Ron Reynolds presented him with a Global Icon Award from the Texas House of Representatives, along with a flag that had been flown over the State Capitol in Austin.

Reynolds recorded the presentation himself at the stadium, holding the framed House proclamation in one hand and the folded flag in its triangular case in the other.

This flag was flown over our Capitol in Austin for none other than Kanye West. We are so honored to have him in H-Town.

The honor landed on top of the biggest rap night the building has ever seen. The venue described the show as breaking the U.S. stadium rap attendance record, and the Houston Chronicle reported a crowd of 80,210. The set already had Playboi Carti and North West as surprise guests, with Drake and Travis Scott spotted in the crowd.

It was Ye’s first real Houston concert since 2013, and the state made it official before he left town. His tour rolls on to Arlington on November 7.
