Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell announced Friday that neither the motorcyclist nor the driver in the viral Sept. 30 road rage fight will face criminal charges.
On Sept. 30, a man on a motorcycle and Tenaya Stanford, driving a black sedan, ended a confrontation on an I-65 exit ramp near Preston Highway. The clip that blew up showed the man striking Stanford with an object and swinging her around as she fought back. A one-year-old could be heard crying in the back seat.
The video set Louisville off. Councilwomen Tammy Hawkins and Betsy Ruhe publicly demanded the man’s arrest. Hawkins posted a photo of a man in sunglasses on Facebook, asking the public to turn him in. One problem: wrong guy.

Then police released the fuller footage. Surveillance from across the street showed Stanford pulling up next to the motorcyclist, an encounter that started long before the viral clip, both of them making it worse. Chief Paul Humphrey called it two adults making a series of bad decisions. Both councilwomen apologized.
“We do not make charging decisions based upon who speaks first, who speaks the loudest, what appears on social media, or what may be politically popular at that particular moment. We make them based upon the facts, the law and the evidence.”

O’Connell said the most jarring part was the infant heard crying in the footage. He also pointed out that more than 600 people died on Kentucky roadways in 2025, and this whole thing should have been a seconds-long encounter.
The timeline wanted an arrest. The tape said otherwise.
