LaMelo Ball’s longtime partner Ana Montana was arrested Monday in North Carolina on felony drug charges, and the details read like a crime show plot. Police say she ran a Xanax prescription scheme through Walgreens using a doctor’s stolen DEA registration number.
Montana, whose legal name is Analicia Chaves, was booked in Mecklenburg County on two felony counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or forgery, plus two misdemeanor counts of simple possession of a Schedule IV substance. She was held on a $20,000 bond, according to booking records obtained by TMZ.
The alleged scheme: filling prescriptions for alprazolam, the generic form of Xanax, with paperwork written on a doctor’s allegedly stolen DEA registration and medical provider ID. The conduct dates back to February 21, but the warrant was not issued until September 22. She was taken in six days later.
Her lawyer pushed back, telling TMZ the charges allege a doctor used a fraudulent DEA registration and NPI number to write the prescription, and that Montana simply filled it at the pharmacy. The charges are allegations. Nothing has been proven in court.
Montana founded the nonprofit I Am Fertility and has been open about her fertility journey. She and Ball have been linked since 2021 and welcomed their first child, a son named LaOne, in January. Ball was traded from Charlotte to Minnesota in June and is about to start his first season with the Timberwolves.
Felony prescription fraud, a stolen DEA number, and a $20,000 bond, right as LaMelo is starting a new chapter in Minnesota. This one is going to follow him into the season.
