The story flying around New York on Wednesday morning had Funkmaster Flex getting punched in the face at Madison Square Garden on Knicks ring night. Flex answered it the loudest way he knows how: he posted the email TMZ sent him asking if it really happened, and laughed at the whole thing.
The email, from a TMZ news desk producer around 10 p.m. Tuesday, said the outlet had been told Flex was in the Delta Club at the Garden when somebody punched him in the face and set off a big fight. Flex put the screenshot on his own Instagram with a caption doing the denying for him.
“HAHAHAHAHA! PLEASE! YOU WISH I GOT PUNCHED IN THE FACE!”
The rumor started with an Instagram story video of security breaking up a scrum near the coat check after the 76ers spoiled ring night with a 106 to 100 win. The story’s caption claimed its poster watched Flex get punched in the mouth. The clip itself shows the aftermath, not a clear punch, and there has been no confirmation from the Garden, the Knicks or the NYPD, and no arrests or injuries reported. That did not slow it down. By Wednesday morning, clip pages were uploading the footage with titles treating the punch as settled fact.
Flex says he knows who is really mad. His caption blames label guys who want to sue when they do not get their way, and quotes his man Shadow with the line “Please punch so I can sue you.” He also promised his own video is coming soon, the one clip that would actually settle what happened in that hallway.
By early Wednesday he was already back at the Hot 97 studio posing with Nessa and Kazeem, looking completely unbothered for a man the internet had getting rocked twelve hours earlier.
