Watch Gloria Velez respond on Instagram
Gloria Velez heard what Cam’ron and Ma$e said about the video vixens, and she was not laughing along.
On It Is What It Is, co-host Treasure “Stat Baby” Wilson asked what happened to the women from the videos. The table’s answer, delivered twice with a laugh: they “just go back to general population.”
Velez posted a video flipping the whole thing around. “Imagine this, if women in this industry started podcasts and live stream where all we did was dissect men, not their music, not their businesses, not their talent, their lives,” she said. She ran through what those episodes would sound like: who was broke before fame, who was faking money, who was cheating, who was using drugs, who mistreated women. “Would everybody call it entertainment?”
Her point was the money. The women promoted the music, starred in the videos, and helped sell the lifestyle. Now they’re thumbnail fuel. “Our presence helped generate the attention,” she said. “And then disrespecting us generates another check, right? That’s the part nobody wants to talk about.”
She also had a warning for anyone thinking about digging up her past. Her memoir, When Silence Screamed: The Girl Who Knew Too Much, already told it. “You can’t weaponize my past against me when I already had the courage to put it on paper,” she wrote. “I told my own story before anybody could twist it into theirs.”
And she left the table with this: “A lot of women from my generation know way more about these men than we ever said publicly. We saw things, we heard things, we know things.”
