Six days before the midterms, Donald Trump was mid-rally in Chillicothe, Ohio, when a man in the crowd yelled the one name that follows him everywhere now: “Trump went on Epstein’s plane!”
The crowd booed the heckler down, and he flipped them the middle finger on his way out as security hauled him off. Moments later a second protester interrupted and held two middle fingers up at Trump while she was dragged away. The rally was a midterm stop for Senator Jon Husted and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, and Trump had been riffing about Husted when the shouting started.
Trump took the bait and addressed Jeffrey Epstein head on, which he rarely does at length. “He mentioned Epstein,” Trump said. “I threw Epstein out of a club like 20 years ago because I thought he was a whack job.” He clarified he meant Mar-a-Lago, called Epstein a Democrat who “always came around with Democrats,” and insisted he was “totally exonerated.” He offered no evidence for the club story. Trump, who was never formally accused of wrongdoing in Epstein’s crimes, has long denied involvement in or knowledge of them.
Then he went after the heckler personally. Trump claimed the man was a paid protester who got $250 to cause a scene, again with no evidence, and appeared to insinuate the man was gay while the crowd cheered. He called the protesters disrupting his rallies this month “sick, weak people,” then got back to Husted.
The heckler has since posted his own video of the moment, singing an Epstein plane song at the president before getting removed. He says Trump made the $250 story up.
Epstein keeps crashing these rallies because the issue will not die down before Tuesday’s midterm elections. On Monday, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee released a 53-page dossier on Trump’s alleged ties to Epstein, and earlier this month in Youngstown a protester who revealed a “Release the Epstein Files” shirt was tackled and punched by Trump supporters while Trump jeered from the stage. The White House has called the Democratic push a desperate distraction, but Wednesday night in Chillicothe it was a lone heckler, not a committee, who put Epstein back on the mic.
