A man brought his dog into a Houston grocery store on Friday night. The security guard told him the dog couldn’t come in. Minutes later, both men had been shot.
It happened just after 8 p.m. at the Great Wall Supermarket in the city’s Chinatown, on Bellaire Boulevard near the Sam Houston Tollway. Police say the customer, a man in his 20s, argued with the guard and the two exchanged gunfire. Both went into surgery Friday night and were listed in critical condition.
New surveillance video from a restaurant two doors down shows what the panic looked like: about 20 customers and workers rushed through Juicy Box toward the kitchen as the shots rang out. Employees said people just kept yelling to run.
“All I hear is run, run, run. I was scared, honestly. I was thinking about calling my loved ones, thinking what was the next step to do.”

A nearby officer heard the gunshots, chased the customer down and took him into custody. The man’s girlfriend and the dog were not hurt. Police said Saturday there was no ongoing threat to the public and no charges had been announced.
All of it over a dog being allowed inside the store.
