Reggie McFadden, ‘In Living Color’ And ‘Def Comedy Jam’ Comedian, Dies At 57

Reggie McFadden, the Brooklyn-born comedian who broke through on Def Comedy Jam and joined the final season of In Living Color, has died. He was 57.

His sister, author Bernice McFadden, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter. The U.S. State Department notified the family on Sunday that Reggie had died in Tanzania, where he had lived for the last 18 years. The family does not yet know when or how he died.

Reggie’s big break came in 1991 on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam. He moved to Los Angeles and picked up roles on Martin, Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper, Moesha, and Coach, then joined In Living Color for its 1993-94 season, appearing in 23 episodes. He later played Officer Burt on a 2001 episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm and appeared in films including Jacob’s Ladder and Little Nicky. He had his own Comedy Central special and performed regularly in Las Vegas.

In recent years he ran Olduvai Records, an entertainment production company in Tanzania, and released the album ENJOY, Vol. 1 in May 2025. He is survived by his sons Jaron and Myles, his mother Vivian, his sisters Bernice and Misty, and his brother Kris.
