Delaware State’s homecoming ended in a parking lot shooting Saturday night. A 22-year-old from Philadelphia was killed, and a 21-year-old is in stable condition.
It happened around 9:19 p.m. in the Dover Commons parking lot, across the street from campus on North DuPont Highway. Officers already working the crowd heard the gunshots and saw people running.

They found a 21-year-old shot in the upper body, then a second victim, 22-year-old Nasir Cox of Philadelphia. The roads around the area were gridlocked, so officers loaded both men into police cruisers and rushed them to the hospital. Cox died from his injuries. The other man is stable.
Thousands had been at DSU’s homecoming before the university cleared everyone off campus around 6 p.m. The crowds spilled into nearby shopping centers, and more than 50 officers from Dover, New Castle County, Wilmington, Smyrna and Camden were already on crowd duty, answering fights, disorderly calls and shots-fired reports.
