Woman Arrested After Security Guard Shot Dead Outside Baddies Event in San Francisco

The “Baddies” universe had a deadly night in San Francisco. Zeus Network’s reality show was filming its “Baddies USA Chapter 3” event at the Warfield Theatre on Saturday, and by 1 a.m., a security guard was dead.

Ulysses “Bear” Davis, 47, was working security after the show ended around midnight. His brother-in-law told KTVU that Davis was walking a rowdy woman out of the theater near Market and Taylor when she allegedly pulled a gun and shot him in the back. Davis’s wife and two of his six kids were there and saw it happen.

The night was already off the rails before the shooting. Staff told reporters that about 15 minutes earlier, someone set off bear mace inside the theater, sending people pouring out of the lobby coughing. Fights were breaking out, and the place was half empty. The Warfield holds 2,250. Fewer than 1,000 showed up.

On Tuesday, SFPD homicide detectives arrested 42-year-old Shakia Vanderbilt and charged her with murder. Police have not said what led to the shooting. One witness told a local outlet he saw a woman take a handgun from another woman near the box office before the gunfire, but police have not confirmed that account. Vanderbilt has been charged, not convicted.

Police are also looking into whether the Warfield even had the right permits for the event. Zeus Network CEO Lemuel Plummer and the Warfield have not responded to requests for comment.
