Ron Harper won five championships playing defense for the Bulls and the Lakers. This week the toughest fake he ever fell for was not a crossover. It was an AI volleyball player who does not exist.
The clip is a fake interview with an AI generated woman presented as a UCLA volleyball player named Lola Melone. Asked her favorite position, she answers like the question was never about volleyball. Harper found the clip and replied to it himself.
“You said it…”

People in the replies told him right away that the woman is AI generated. A day later the reply was still up. Harper had not deleted it, explained it or played it off.
The Melone accounts are not just a joke page. They point followers toward a paid page selling the AI persona, so a famous name reacting like she is real is exactly what the account is built to catch.

Harper, 62, is the father of Spurs guard Dylan Harper and Celtics guard Ron Harper Jr., and his mentions filled up with fans of all three of them watching the same clip.
Five rings, two dynasties, a career built on not biting on fakes. The AI era scored on him anyway.
