Lupe Fiasco gave Kendrick Lamar credit, but he is not handing over the crown for best lyricist.
During an appearance on KoalaTea Reacts, Lupe spoke on where he believes Kendrick stands compared to him. Lupe made it clear that he respects Kendrick’s overall artistry, including the albums, production, narratives, team, and the full package that has helped make Kendrick one of the biggest rappers of his generation.
But when it comes to pure lyricism, Lupe said he does not believe Kendrick is better than him.

That is where the debate gets tricky, because Kendrick has bars himself, but his storytelling, voice, concepts, performances, impact, and album-making all play a major role in how people rank him. Lupe’s case, meanwhile, has always been tied to the pen. Wordplay, layered writing, technical ability, and the kind of bars people need three breakdown videos to fully unpack.
So this is not really Lupe saying Kendrick is not great. It is more Lupe separating “better artist” from “better lyricist,” and placing himself above Kendrick in that one specific category.
