ICE Agent Shoots and Wounds a Man in the Bronx

A federal immigration agent shot and wounded a man in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon. It happened around 4:20 at 2 Marble Hill Ave., in the Marble Hill neighborhood, when agents with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations fired at a man in a car, according to police and law enforcement sources.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital. He is conscious, and his injuries are not life-threatening, according to those sources. Two federal agents were also hurt in the encounter and are being treated at a hospital, a law enforcement source said. Nobody has said yet what led up to the shooting, and ICE has not commented.

The NYPD moved fast to put distance between itself and the shooting. The department posted on X that its officers were not involved and were not on scene when it happened. One woman watching from a nearby balcony was heckling the officers below about “taking our children.”

Bystander video from the scene shows the aftermath: the man pulled from a silver SUV in handcuffs, armed agents with rifles standing around the car while people on the sidewalk filmed. One person filming could be heard saying the men with rifles were not NYPD, that it was ICE.

Gov. Kathy Hochul said she has been briefed on the shooting and expects federal authorities to give “a full and transparent accounting of the circumstances.” The story is still developing.
