Kim Mathers, the 51-year-old ex-wife of Eminem, is back behind bars in Michigan. A judge revoked her release on Wednesday after finding she walked out of the court-ordered inpatient treatment that was the only thing keeping her out of a jail cell.
Macomb County Judge William Hackel III ruled that Mathers abandoned the treatment facility without permission, violating the bond conditions tied to her three pending criminal cases. She is now being held in the Macomb County Jail, with her next hearing set for October 14.
Her attorney argued that a magistrate had agreed to let Mathers leave the facility. The judge rejected that outright, saying only a circuit judge had the authority to change her bond conditions. He told Mathers she could not simply disappear for weeks and then show up asking the court to revisit her bond.
The ruling is the latest turn in a year that keeps getting worse for Mathers. In February, police say she crashed her Range Rover into a parked pickup truck. Days after pleading no contest to operating while impaired in May, she was arrested again after allegedly crashing into another parked car with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.
She skipped three court hearings in June, then turned herself in. In July she was tased during an arrest in which police say she bit an officer’s forearm. In August, the same judge revoked her bond but offered a lifeline: check into inpatient treatment and walk free. She checked in, then left without authorization. Across all of her cases, she faces up to seven years in prison.
