Mel Brooks has confirmed that Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money is finally happening, nearly four decades after the original film. The sequel will continue the legacy of the 1987 sci-fi parody that became a cult classic.
Josh Gad is set to star in the new movie and will also co-write the script. Mel Brooks is returning as producer and may appear onscreen as well. The film will take aim at modern sci-fi franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek, staying true to the spoof style of the original.
Although there’s no release date yet, the project is officially in development and expected to begin production soon. Fans of the original will remember that the idea for a sequel was first joked about in the 1987 movie — now, it’s actually moving forward.
