PlayStation Is Raising PS5 Prices In The U.S. Due To Tariffs

PlayStation just dropped bad news for gamers every PS5 model in the U.S. is going up by $50 starting August 21, 2025. That means the standard PS5 now costs $549.99, the Digital Edition $499.99, and the PS5 Pro $749.99. Sony says tariffs are to blame, with new import duties hitting electronics from 15% in Japan to 30% in China, plus steep rates on Vietnam and Malaysia. For months, the company buffered players by stockpiling consoles and shifting supply chains, but now that cushion is gone and the costs are landing straight on consumers. Accessories like controllers and headsets aren’t affected at least for now.

This isn’t just Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are also raising prices under the same economic squeeze. Analysts warn tariffs won’t disappear anytime soon, and relocating production to the U.S. is unrealistic. That means gamers should expect higher prices to stick. The hike takes effect August 21, so today is the last chance to grab bundles like the PS5 Slim Digital with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 for $400 before they vanish.
