R&B singer Keke Wyatt was arrested in Henry County, Georgia on September 20 after a child custody exchange turned into a gun threat. A witness told police Wyatt pulled a black 9mm Beretta through her car window and said, “Let that b*tch come over here, so I can blow her brains out.” Police say the confrontation happened in front of children.
Wyatt admitted she had the gun in her car but denied pointing it at the woman or threatening anyone, according to the arrest affidavit. She was booked into the Henry County jail and released two days later after posting $1,050 bond.
The booking report listed terroristic threats, assault and cruelty to children counts. Her team pushed back on Friday, saying court documents do not reflect any cruelty to children, terroristic threats or aggravated assault charges, and that she was only charged with simple assault. “We are not offering excuses,” her rep said, asking that the facts be reported responsibly.
This is not Wyatt’s first run in with the law over a domestic incident. In 2002, a Kentucky grand jury indicted her on second-degree assault after her then husband Rahmat Morton was stabbed during a Christmas Day dispute. That case was later dismissed, and Wyatt has said she acted in self defense.
Wyatt, 46, is best known for her early 2000s duets with Avant, “My First Love” and “Nothing In This World,” and later starred on TV One’s R&B Divas: Atlanta. She is a mother of eleven.
