Jamie Foxx says the clone rumors did not just live on the internet while he recovered from his stroke. He read them himself in rehab, believed them, and says he watched a white version of himself walk into his room.
Foxx told the story to radio host Big Boy in an interview filmed in September, while promoting his Hulu special “Take Care of Yourself,” which premiered October 7. In rehab after his 2023 stroke, his family and medical team kept him cut off from the outside world for six months. So he snuck a phone to see what people were saying about him.
“Oh, I ain’t had no stroke. They trying to clone me in here.”
Jamie Foxx, on what he thought in rehab
Heavily medicated, the clone talk made sense to him. Then he says he saw himself walk into his own room, except the man was white. His thinking at the time: they wanted a white Jamie Foxx who would sell better overseas in movies. He also thought his own sister suddenly looked Puerto Rican.

A psychiatrist finally asked him if he was all right. Foxx answered, “Am I all right, or am I all white?” The doctor looked over his medication, lowered the dosage, and told him the real problem: he was high as f**k.
The backstory is why the rumors had room to grow. Foxx suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke in April 2023, in Atlanta while filming “Back in Action.” His family kept the details private for months, and the silence filled up with clone talk, which is wild for a man who had just starred in “They Cloned Tyrone.”
He played a clone on screen, then had to talk himself out of believing he was one. Nobody else could tell that rehab story.
