Druski is opening up about the moment everything changed. Sitting down with Steven Bartlett on The Diary Of A CEO, the comedian said appearing in Drake’s 2020 video for “Laugh Now Cry Later” shifted his career almost overnight.
“I can’t believe he took a chance on me,” Druski said during the nearly two hour conversation. He was already building a following online, but a co-sign from one of the biggest artists in the world gave him a level of legitimacy that is hard to get on your own.
It all started in the DMs. Drake had seen Druski’s Kyle Rogger sketches and reached out directly, and that message led to Druski clowning Drake in the second half of the Dave Meyers-directed video, which was shot at Nike’s headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. The star-studded clip also features Kevin Durant, Odell Beckham Jr., Marshawn Lynch, and Lil Durk, who appears on the record itself.
Since the video dropped, Druski has turned the momentum into an empire: his satirical label Coulda Been Records, arena tours, major brand deals, and his own production company, 4Lifers Entertainment. The episode, titled “Druski: They’re Lying To You About Overnight Success!”, also digs into his childhood in Atlanta, using comedy as a coping tool, and why he never kept a Plan B.
