Jerry Jones is not sitting still. Late Wednesday night the Cowboys pried cornerback Joey Porter Jr. away from the Pittsburgh Steelers, sending a 2027 sixth round pick and a 2028 second rounder back the other way, per Tom Pelissero and ESPN.
Porter, 26, has been at war with Pittsburgh all season. He wanted a new deal in the final year of his rookie contract, the Steelers refused to talk, and a back injury kept him sidelined for all three games. He reportedly turned down an extension worth north of $27 million.
Dallas needs him yesterday. The Cowboys are 1-2 with a banged up secondary. Cobie Durant is nursing a hamstring, Shavon Revel Jr. is dealing with knee and ankle issues, and the defense has forced two turnovers in three games. The 6-foot-2 Porter is a legit press corner the moment his back cooperates.
No new contract yet, though. Per Jordan Schultz, Dallas is not extending him right away. The plan is simple. Play, ball out, and let the money take care of itself. He also reunites with former Steelers George Pickens and Broderick Jones, making it three Pittsburgh to Dallas deals in two years.
