A Man Climbed Into the Tiger Enclosure at a Wildlife Park in England. The Tiger Mauled Him.

A man climbed into the “Land of the Tigers” enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster, England, on Saturday afternoon. Police say the tiger attacked him and left him seriously injured.

South Yorkshire Police got the call at 1:35pm local time. The tiger stayed inside the enclosure, so officers said there was no risk to the public. The park was evacuated.

The park called it a serious incident and said its emergency procedures were activated right away. Two land ambulances, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and a doctor were sent to the scene. The park is closed for the rest of the weekend.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with staff rushing people out and some visitors claiming they heard what sounded like gunshots. Police did not confirm any of that. They did ask people not to share what they called distressing footage of the incident circulating online.

No word yet on why the man climbed in.
